about

I was watching President Obama's victory speech on the Tuesday following Mother Nature's latest magic show, Hurricane Sandy, and he said something incredible. He called the population of our great country the "American Family." It was the only bit of rhetoric from the entire ugly campaign proceedings that resonated with me. It was, and remains, something I can believe in, something for which to fight.

Following the storm, I watched neighbors, loved ones and strangers reach out to other neighbors, loved ones and strangers, offering hope and help and love. It was a powerful reminder that the ties that bind our communities together are far stronger than those stupid inconsequential things that would tear us apart.

We are family, after all.

If you are able to do so and would like a small opportunity to help, please purchase the song I've dedicated to my beloved family in NY and NJ. Its aptly titled "Family" and I'm proud to have written it and to have been given the opportunity to share it with you. The wonderful album art was donated by my brother and a huge source of inspiration, Nicholas Forker.

All donations will go directly to two grassroots organizations doing enormous good during very difficult times, Occupy Sandy (NY) and Rebuild Recover (NJ).

lyrics

Yeah we, we're family
and what befalls upon us one, befalls unto another one
You see, you'll get what you need
We don't let our brothers drown amongst the wreckage, or fall down upon their knees
We're family,
And we brought this place to life, with blistered hands and sacrifice, and yeah we
We still believe, we still believe, in family

We've loved and lost together, and
Our paths are tied forever
Let's give em hell, and make things right…..

We will always do,
What we've always done,
We'll rebuild what's ours,
And we'll soldier on
As our mother's daughters and our father son's
We will always do
What we've always done
Carry On

The sea, well she attacked,
And gutted out our insides, left us crippled, lying face down in the sand
But we'll come back,
We'll spring to life,
We don't take these things for granted, and but for a few of us we all survived,
Our family, our family, our family

We've loved and lost together, and
Our paths are tied forever
Let's give em hell, and make things right…..

We will always do,
What we've always done,
We'll rebuild what's ours,
And we'll soldier on
As our fathers' daughters' and our mothers' sons'
We will always do
What we've always done
Carry On
